Benefits of food packaging
A vacuum-shaped food packaging offers many advantages when it comes to food handling. The possibility to reseal and reuse a plastic packaging means that many foods have a longer shelf life and freshness. Additionally, it also facilitates the storage and handling of the goods.
Many foods do much better in a plastic package than if they were without them. A classic example are the cucumbers sold in Sweden. Although it may seem unnecessary to many that a single cucumber needs to be wrapped in plastic, the fact remains that it prolongs shelf life by almost twice the time. By doing so wholesalers and stores can avoid the waste that would otherwise occur with many products being fresh for a much shorter time.
Plastic packages reduce food waste
Meat and other produce also last much longer in a plastic package than if they were packaged in another way. The grocery stores can thus save a lot of those products and money, that would otherwise be wasted. Food waste is also one of the biggest factors contributing to increased greenhouse gas emissions. Without today's plastic packaging, these emissions would increase as the raw materials would have a much shorter shelf life. Additionally, it would not be able to transport the goods those distances they are being transported today.
The disadvantage is, of course, the recurring factor that plastic is made from a non-renewable resource. However, if both producers and consumers take responsibility, we can together handle these in a responsible way and create a sustainable life cycle for all plastic products.
We always handle our packaging for food in a very safe way. Since july 2016, INP is certified for FSSC 22000 to be able to manage your packaging in a correct way. Since 2006 we have also worked together with HACCP, focusing on food safety and we have had this in our minds ever since we first built our industry. We also work with Normpack, which we also obtained a certification for.
